Reverend Evelyn Louise McCann
Evelyn was born August 17,1941 in Hawkins, Texas to the proud parents of Saron and Alberta Johnson. She graduated from Hawkins Colored High School. She was employed and also attended Jarvis Christian University.
Evelyn’s life took a beautiful turn when she met and married Lovorn McCann, who became her soulmate and lifelong companion. Their union blossomed into a remarkable 61-year marriage filled with love, shared experiences, and unwavering support for each other. As a mother of two, Evelyn poured her heart into raising her children with love and dedication. She adored her grandchildren.
Evelyn studied and adopted the foundational doctrines of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church. She became an ordained minister and was appointed as pastor to St. Mark CME Church in Wills Point, Texas. During her leadership at St. Mark’s, Evelyn was recognized by the Eighth Episcopal District council and local city leaders in Wills Point for being the first female in the district to secure major funding to build a new and larger church facility; a very notable accomplishment during that time. Evelyn retired as a pastor in 2000 due to health issues.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Lovorn McCann, her parents Saron and Alberta Johnson, sister Margaret Holland and brother Carl Johnson.
Evelyn will forever be cherished in the hearts of her sons; Everett and Marcus, grandsons; Daniel and JaMarcus, granddaughter, Jennifer, great grandsons Brennon and Daniel, great granddaughters Kerrigan and Kaylee, sister Mildred Brown, brother James E. Johnson, her (sisters-in-law) Katie James and Jessie Johnson, (brother-in-law) Edward McCann and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
